Jo Cave is an artist based near St Ives in Cornwall, creating bold acrylic paintings inspired by the surrounding coastline and a sense of everyday joy. Working from real places and subjects - seascapes, landscapes and florals - her art balances observation with abstraction, simplifying scenes into strong shapes, colour blocks and expressive mark-making.

Originally from the Midlands, Jo did not grow up by the coast, so the expansive skies, beaches and headlands of Cornwall continue to feel vivid and energising. This sense of discovery runs through her work. She is particularly drawn to the shifting relationship between sea and sky, exploring contrast through colour and texture - from the brightness of sand to the movement of clouds across the horizon.

Working from loose sketches made on location - wind in her hair, sand catching the page - Jo develops each painting in her studio, layering colour and shape over a bright underpainting and allowing visible, textural brushstrokes to bring energy and depth to the surface.

Living in Cornwall has become central to Jo’s work, her practice reflecting a genuine love of place, colour and coastal life. Her paintings seek to bring brightness and optimism into everyday spaces.
